For the first time in about 20 years, the series therefore risks losing its canonical annual release: the decision has already been made by Activision and regardless of what the merger agreement is made with Microsoftbut it is primarily linked to the poor performance of Vanguard on the market.
Some executives reportedly believe that the so frequent cadence of new Call of Duty releases is paradoxically damaging the popularity of the series and it would be wise to take a year to give this year’s episode the opportunity. Modern Warfare 2to capitalize on its potential to the maximum.
Call of Duty 2023 skips: focus on Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2
Obviously, in front of an audience accustomed to having its annual Call of Duty release, Activision already has plans on how to fill the “void” of 2023.

That the year of “rest” coincides with the year in which, barring surprises, it will be completed the acquisition by Microsoft it is therefore a pure coincidence, although the Redmond company had hinted that it wanted to revise the plans for the publication of the Call of Duty series.
A break that comes after 20 years of continuous releases and which is also the sign of times that are inevitably changing.
