Apple patents a keyboard with macOS inside

Apple has patented a Magic Keyboard with operating system integrated inside to carry macOS on any display; this is one of the most interesting news we have heard about in recent months.

Briefly, the document suggests that Apple is working on a completely new computer concept. It features a magic keyboard designed with a full computer inside that can be connected to any display.

How does the Apple keyboard work with macOS inside

This new concept seems to rival a desktop computer and a laptop. Users will be able to carry the keyboard with them without the need for a monitor, case or mouse. It is understandable that the keyboard may contain a trackpad to avoid the need to carry the mouse on the go.

It is essentially a portable desktop computer in a magic keyboard format. Similar to the Mac mini, users bring their own display to installation. This would be a standalone device that wouldn’t even require cables or cords.

In some of the patent examples, the device includes an enclosure with a thermally conductive base. It also features a processing unit in thermal communication with the base.

This patent was first filed in August 2020 and published this week by the United States Patent Office.

What do we think about it

Of course this is just a patent and as such, it may never come to life and never see the light of day. For sure, it could be a revolutionary and fascinating idea; we would be curious to know how the final result could be.

Imagine the freedom of movement: a simple keyboard (perhaps equipped with a couple of USB C ports and a MagSafe connector for charging), a USB-HDMi cable and you can connect anywhere. Of course, it would not be as comfortable as a laptop, of course, but it would allow you to replace the Mac Mini worthily.

What do you think? Would you like a similar gadget and, above all, would you prefer it to a desktop computer?
