On the OLED and QNED 2022 TV range of LG will debut on Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail, a novelty that promises to improve the reproduction of content in Dolby Vision. Underlying this addition to the Dolby Dynamic Metadata format is a solution developed to achieve a higher contrast ratio and a greater level of detail, both in the darkest and brightest portions of the image. It is not necessary to create a special version of the videos in Dolby Vision to take advantage of this technological evolution: all films, TV series, documentaries, etc. in the Dolby format are already compatible.
What is absolutely essential is a powerful processor: for this reason Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail is used only on models equipped with the new ones Alpha 9 Gen 5, the latest evolution inserted by LG on high-end televisions. Models with Alpha 7 Gen 5, as well as previous generations of OLED and QNED with Alpha 9 Gen 4, should therefore not be able to access improvements via future firmware updates.
The integration of Precision Detail technology with Dolby Vision IQ also allows you to take advantage of the brightness sensors in the TVs to optimize the yield according to the light present in the environment. LG is currently the first and only manufacturer to have confirmed support for the latest evolution of the Dolby format. However, the technology should arrive in the future on other models, even without ambient light sensors.
