2022 will be the year in which OnePlus will enter the Android tablet market, according to 91mobiles; at least in China and India. In the first case, a whole range of devices should arrive, while in the second only one model is expected, according to the information reported by the leaker Mukul Sharma. For the moment, the technical details are scarce, as are the indications on possible timelines, which are limited to a generic “first half of 2022”.
The current reconstructions indicate that the first “OnePlus Pad” (the name is provisional and it is not known whether this will remain, although it is likely, given that it has been officially registered as a trademark in Europe) should arrive in China.
However, the launch should not coincide with that of the new generation of top-of-the-range smartphones, the OnePlus 10, so it is likely that it will take place at a later time; remember that the OnePlus 10 will be, at least always according to rumors, among the first smartphones with the new generation top-of-the-range Snapdragon SoC, so it is safe to assume that it will be presented at the beginning of the year.
To get an idea of the timing of the release of tablets it might make sense to monitor the progress of Android 12L. Google announced it a few weeks ago, shortly after the launch of “regular” Android 12 on compatible Pixels: it is a system update that should come out by March 2022, and which will be aimed mostly at folding tablets and smartphones, and more generally at devices with large screens (the “L” stands for “Large”, in short).
It is, therefore, safe to assume that OnePlus will want to wait for the availability of an optimized system specifically for tablets, in order to provide the best possible user experience to buyers. The Android 12L Beta program started just a few days ago; let’s imagine that Oppo and OnePlus, like all the other big manufacturers, are already testing it properly.
But since, in fact, there is talk of a stable launch in March, the window of the first quarter of 2022 becomes rather unlikely for the OnePlus Pad. Among other things, it is fair to observe that, a bit like Xiaomi, OnePlus also tends to favor, at least in terms of time, one’s own market compared to the others, even for several weeks; In short, late spring / early summer seems a rather plausible forecast for the international market.
