The chip maker Qualcomm is ready to renew the lineup of its processors designed for wearable devices: the latest chip from the company, Snapdragon Wear 4100+has been on the market for over a year and therefore the time has come Snapdragon Wear 5100 and 5100+.
Both chips will have 4 nm production process (and not at 5 nm as initially thought): in particular, Snapdragon Wear 5100 will use core ARM Cortex-A53 at 1.7 GHzwith Adreno 720 GPU and up to 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM with support for eMMC 5.1 memory. These are similar specs to those of the previous Wear 4100+, but the move to 4nm will make the performance much better on the new chips.
As for instead Snapdragon Wear 5100+the data sheet is not known precisely: the chip will however have one “ultra-low power deep sleep mode”which will allow to consume very little battery while maintaining Wi-Fi and Bluetooth function, thanks to the introduction of a co-processor QCC5100. The latter will also allow better detection of falls and heart rate.
Unfortunately, we still don’t have details on the availability of the chips.
