Apple releases HomePod and Apple TV beta 4 updates
A week later, a new firmware version of tvOS and HomePodOS is available. The Cupertino giant is now releasing – for developers and public beta users – beta 4 of tvOS 15.4 and HomePod 15.4.
Today’s build is 19L5436a. It is important to note that while all developers can download tvOS 15.4 beta 4, only a select few people can try the HomePod version, meaning almost everyone has to wait to experience the latest features of the apple smart speaker.
After a small update of tvOS 15.3, Apple has added several new features to tvOS 15.4. For example, it now has a smart way to access annoying captive Wi-Fi networks on Apple TV.
tvOS 15.4 and HomePod 15.4 will add captive Wi-Fi network support, which means you’ll be able to use your iPhone or iPad to connect Apple TV and HomePod to networks that require additional login steps. The company explains in the release notes:
Captive Wi-Fi network support on tvOS allows you to use your iPhone or iPad to connect your Apple TV to networks that require additional sign-in steps, such as in hotels or dorms. (8351052)
Not only that, but the Apple TV video player on tvOS 15.4 now has a new “Inbox” list that can be viewed from the “Now Playing” screen. With a simple touch, the system will start playing the movie or series of your choice. This way, you won’t have to go back to the app’s main screen to find the “Next” section and then select another content.
Nonetheless, the company is also restoring the “Tap to browse” feature, having removed it in mid-August last year.
Last but not least, the company has also revamped the controls Spatial Audio with tvOS 15.4. In addition to tvOS 15.4, the Cupertino-based company is also releasing the fourth beta version of iOS 15.4, iPadOS 15.4, macOS Monterey 12.3 and watchOS 8.5.
