Gogoro is a Taiwanese company known for creating an innovative battery swap service for electric scooters. A reality that after having achieved great success at home is planning to expand its service to other markets such as China.
Gogoro announced that he had crossed another important milestone. The company, in fact, has announced that it has produced its millionth battery dedicated to the battery swap service. This is a really interesting figure that highlights the growth this service has had since it was launched in 2015.
The center of gravity of the service is the Gogoro Network, an open and interoperable platform for exchanging batteries. The numbers of this platform are truly impressive. There are currently 450,000 users who can access the battery swap. Also, they are available over 10,000 GoStations, that is, stations where people can, in a matter of minutes, replace the scooter’s flat battery with a charged one. Every day, says the company, 340,000 replacements are made of the batteries. Since the launch of the service have been performed over 255 million replacements of accumulators.
Battery swapping is emerging as a revolutionary technology that could greatly accelerate the adoption of light electric vehicles. More importantly, swapping batteries can eliminate range anxiety, reduce initial vehicle costs, and address consumer concerns about low EV charging speeds and battery obsolescence and reliability.
Indeed, the battery swap solution is very interesting for electric scooters, so much so that other companies are thinking about it with a view to launching their models. In this regard, one cannot fail to mention that Honda, Yamaha, KTM and Piaggio they created the Swappable Batteries Motorcycle Consortium to create a standard of interchangeable batteries. The goal, as you can guess, is to avoid fragmenting the electric motorcycle market, maximizing the compatibility of a key component such as the battery, so that the same product can be installed on multiple vehicles, even of different brands.
