Mazda, March 8 the new CX-60 SUV will debut. This is the first of two SUVs that the Japanese carmaker will launch in Europe by 2023. Next year will be the turn of the CX-80 model which will feature the possibility of 3 rows of seats, accommodating up to 7 people. Returning to the CX-60, this model is very important for the growth plans of the manufacturer given the success that the SUVs have on the market.
It will also be Mazda’s first car to have a Plug-in powertrain. The PHEV model is destined to become the new flagship of the European range of SUVs of the Japanese brand.
WHAT DO WE KNOW?
For the time being, Mazda has shared a couple of teasers of its new car. The first shows a detail of the optical group. Looking at the image it can be seen that for the CX-60, Mazda has opted for new LED headlights divided into two parts. This is a way to give the car more character and differentiate it from the other SUV models already in the range. The exterior design, however, will be the most recent development of the Kodo, Mazda’s design philosophy that characterizes its cars.
The second teaser, on the other hand, allows you to take a very first look at the interior of the SUV, interiors that will feature premium coatings including maple wood and nappa leather.
As for the PHEV model, the automaker has only made it known that there will be a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor. The combined power will be over 300 hp. However, no details regarding performance, battery and autonomy in electric-only mode.
THE 6-CYLINDER RETURNS
The new Mazda CX-60 will rest on a new platform. In addition to the Plug-ins there will be also 6-cylinder engines and diesel will not be missing either. So, with the new SUV, Mazda continues to follow its philosophy. The brand aims to introduce important innovations such as Plug-ins but at the same time it wants to propose its endothermic engines. There will also be the Skyactiv-x engine seen, for example, on the Mazda CX-3.
A new model that will combine Mazda’s passion for driving and that for engineering that has led to the development of new engine solutions.
