MWC 2022 takes a stand on the war in Ukraine: Russia out of the fair

War in Ukraine it also has inevitable implications for the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The GSMA, organizer of the fair, has issued a press release visible on the official website of the Catalan event in which condemns Russia for invading Ukrainian territory. It is read:

The GSMA strongly condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The situation is evolving rapidly, and we learn that several governments are considering broader sanctions against Russia. In light of this situation and considering the tragic loss of life, MWC seems irrelevant under the circumstances. MWC is a uniting event with the aim of bringing the mobile ecosystem together to improve the ways and means by which connectivity can ensure the prosperity of people, industry and society.

The GSMA follows all government sanctions and policies resulting from this situation. There will be no Russian Pavilion at MWC22. Security for the event is constantly updated and corrected in real time.

The Mobile World Congress therefore takes note of the situation and reacts by taking a position: a due act, a difficult decision, however, considering also that this was to be the edition of the recovery after the extremely difficult years of the pandemic. The war in Europe also echoes Barcelona, and one way to take sides with the Ukrainian people by calling for peace is to oust Russia from the 2022 edition.
