NieR: Automata is an action RPG originally released in 2017 by PlatinumGames (developer) and Square Enix (publisher) and created by the now defunct Japanese game developer Guinea pig (Drakengard, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles). Square Enix has released versions of the game for two different consoles: NieR Gestalt for Xbox 360 and NieR Replicant for PlayStation 3. NieR Replicant had a different character design for the protagonist and small differences in the plot. After Cavia’s death, the game was absorbed by AQ Interactive Inc in July 2010.
A remastered edition of NieR Replicant launched for PS4, Xbox One and PC via Steam on April 22, 2021 in Japan and April 23 outside Japan while the sequel was released for PS4 in Japan on February 23, 2017, followed by North America and Europe in March 2017. Square Enix also released the game on PC via Steam in March 2017 and on Xbox One in June 2018.
