UPDATE: the Japanese Pokémon site has been updated, revealing some very interesting details about the title. Confirmed its open world nature, with players who will be able to “freely explore the game world”. The names of the starters have also been revealed: Nyaoh will be the Grass type, Hogeta the Fire type and Quass the Water type.
Original news: After this year’s “spin-off”, Game Freak has finally lifted the veils from the new generation of Pokémon. The reveal of the two new games took place during the last Pokémon Presents show and it was a decidedly unexpected announcement, considering the duration of the presentation, which focused (at least in its first part) only for some updates on the games of the franchises already published.
The two new titles of the genre were presented with a long trailer, which you obviously find a little further down. The two unreleased titles officially kick off the ninth generation of the franchise and will be called Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Therefore, the classic nature of the title seems to be confirmed, even if some aspects suggest that it is an open world game. We therefore do not know anything yet: the reveal trailer was in fact focused only on the city and on the game environments, but it does not contain any type of gameplay scene and at the moment we can only make hypotheses, which we will try to confirm over the next few hours.
For the moment, however, we know practically nothing about Violet and Scarlet. There are some details that seem interesting: the engine used looks the same as in Legends Arceus and the setting should be inspired by Spain, at least according to a reference inserted in the trailer. Instead, the starters have been confirmed, which will be the ones you can see depicted in the artwork inserted in the announcement trailer just above. Clearly, these are only small details that have not yet been confirmed and it is reasonable to expect official information, presumably arriving as early as tomorrow.
We come now to the exit. Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will be available later this year, obviously exclusively for Nintendo Switch. A release date will likely be announced over the next few months.
