Skoda too like Volkswagen and Cupra, it is working on a more accessible electric model based on the “MEB Entry” platform. A car, therefore, which will rest on the same basis as the Volkswagen ID.2 and the production version of the Cupra Urban Rebel concept car. This battery-powered vehicle will go to replace the Skoda Citigo-e iV which was withdrawn from the market some time ago. Volkswagen and Cupra seem to be ahead with this project as they have already presented concept cars.
However, it seems that Skoda wants to make up for this “delay”. Speaking with Autocar, the CEO of Skoda Thomas Schäfer he said they would soon make an announcement to that effect. Therefore, it is very likely that in the course of 2022 the concept of this electric vehicle will debut, which will arrive over the next few years. The CEO then highlighted that it will be a car that will be able to differentiate itself from those of Volkswagen and Cupra.
There is certainly curiosity in finding out what this car will be like and if Skoda will focus on a more crossover style as the market wants or if it will choose different shapes. Style aside, the the technical basis will in any case be the same of all the cars that will rest on the MEB Entry platform. To get an idea of the size it could have, just remember that the Volkswagen ID.Life concept measures 4,091 mm in length. Autocar has also tried to make a render of the “small” electric Skoda based on what is known up to now and which we propose below.
We know that Volkswagen is aiming to launch the ID.2 at a price starting between 20 and 25 thousand euros. Skoda has historically launched its models at a lower price than equivalent models from other Volkswagen Group brands. It will be interesting to understand if even in this case he will be able to offer this “entry level” model at a lower cost.
More precise information will certainly arrive at the time of the presentation of the concept car. However, given that Skoda seems to be lagging behind Volkswagen and Cupra, it is possible that the production model could arrive slightly after the date of 2025, that is when the other “small” electric cars of the Volkswagen Group will debut.
