The launch of Steam Deck it is not a point of arrival for Valve. To reveal it is Gabe Newell, in an interview with IGN, where he talked about the future of the new console arrived on the market in recent days but with an eye to the future. Newell did so with a decidedly strong speech, which exposed the thinking of the company behind the hardware.
According to Newell, Steam Deck will indeed have it same impact as Apple’s iPhone. “There is a before and after the iPhone. When I think of mobile devices, the launch of the phone was a turning point. Currently, we reach this point when the player has a mobile device dedicated to gaming that can do anything ”, the statements of Gabe Newell declared during the interview. His words are obviously not the result of chance: Valve really believes that in the near future, all players will probably be able to have access to the Steam library even on the move, not necessarily using the cloud.
“We have distributed our hardware, but there are still some problems that we are trying to solve”, Newell continued. The problems he refers to are obviously related to the scarcity of components to assemble Steam Deck. A problem that obviously affects all hardware manufacturers and which has been going on since 2020 and has prevented, for example, the purchase of video cards and next generation console by the players.
Steam Deck has certainly been received very positively by players, who immediately praised the announcement of this special hardware. However, if it will really become the new iPhone and help create a new market, it is still too early to say. To find out if Valve will win its “bet” it will take several years and above all important support must be guaranteed, which for example does not seem to have existed with the Steam Machines and the old Steam Controller, but never say never: perhaps, in Seattle, they really changed their mentality.
