TCL shows the first working prototypes of its foldable and rollable

In addition to the news in the field of telephony and wearables, on the occasion of the Mobile World Congress of Barcelona TCL presented its models of foldable and rollableproposed for the first time in the form of prototypes functioning.

The development of this innovative typology of display represents the most pioneering research area of TCL, which for some time has been offering solutions with an original form factor that make use of the latest generation technologies.

In the context of the MWC 2022 TCL presented three devicessome of which we have already learned about in recent months thanks to the first concepts and mock-ups disseminated by the brand.

TCL Fold ‘N Roll
Fold 'N Roll

First of all it is finally reality TCL Fold ‘N Rollthe futuristic device 3-in-1 whose display has on one side a hinge similar to the one we have already seen for years in “classic” foldables, while on the other it rolls up 360 degrees on the back. In this way you can use the Fold ‘N Roll in three ways:

  1. With the display closed and the size of one smartphone standard;
  2. With the foldable display open and the size of a phabletsimilar to the Galaxy Z Fold 3;
  3. With both displays open and the size of a Tablet standard.
Ultra Flex

The second prototype presented by TCL at the MWC is the Ultra Flex displayor can also be opened at 360 degrees. This model realizes a considerable challenge from the point of view of the design of the display area at the foldwhich extends to a much greater angle than foldables on the market today.

The Ultra Flex display promises itself the ambitious intent of delete the second display foldables, thus neutralizing the compromises made at the level of internal components, memory and battery that still severely limit this category of device.

360 Display
TCL foldable and rollable

The last of the prototypes presented by TLC is the so-called Surround Displaya model of foldable hinged where however the display it extends to the other side of the device, once again eliminating the need for a second screen and thus optimizing the performance and price of foldable smartphones.

Considering the progress made by Androidwhich only in recent months has finally proposed a system update dedicated to devices such as foldables, TCL’s prototypes are intended more for future than to the present.

Waiting for user interfaces capable of supporting the technologies developed on board these prototypes, TCL’s foldable and rollable display models give us a first look on what the new ways of telephony could be in the next few years.
