On this smartphone there is the signature of a Japanese designer with the back cover the feeling of the paper. Inside there is the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 but not only. Realme’s top of the range for 2022 is called GT 2 Pro and is ready to amaze even in the price.

Unboxing of Realme GT 2 Pro

Box with recycled materials for Realme that thinks about reducing the environmental impact. Fortunately, Realme does not fall into the fashion of not providing the power supply with the smartphone, far from it. Included is a full-bodied 65 W power supply for fast charging and also a TPU cover signed by Naoto Fukasawa.

Design & Ergonomics

Naoto Fukasawa is the Japanese designer who signed the back cover of this GT 2 Pro, objectively brought his organic style back into this design. The back cover was made of a bio based polymer, in other words, a percentage of the polymer used comes from renewable sources. The consistency is that of plastic while the feeling to the touch is more pleasant because a texture has been added that should simulate the feeling of the paper.

You may like it or not, but the commitment to offering something different is to be appreciated, those looking for a simpler look will also find the classic black color on the market.

The profile is in aluminum, the power button is knurled, the front bezels are almost symmetrical and surround the 6.7 “QHD + AMOLED LTPO 2.0 panel at 120 Hz protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. Below the display is the fingerprint sensor which works very well, it is not at the top but it is very fast and accurate.

The display is excellent, the 120 Hz are managed well, the refresh rate is also lowered to 5 Hz when necessary, there is 100% P3 coverage, HDR support with a peak of 1400 nits.

No problem of visibility in sunlight, the brightness sensor works well and in general the panel is a great pleasure to use for watching movies or series on Netflix, Prime Video and so on and so forth. The merit is also of the stereo audio department with Dolby and Hi-res support, the volume is full-bodied, the audio quality is quite good and obviously, there is no audio jack.

Realme GT 2 Pro

Performance

The strong point of this Realme GT 2 Pro is the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is a 4-nanometer SOC built with ARM V9 architecture with 8 cores structured in 1 3GHz Cortex-X2 core for demanding performance, 3 Cortex-A710 cores for 2.5GHz high loads and 4 Cortex-A510 cores at 1.8GHz for low load operations. The integrated GPU is the Adreno 730.

Realme has inserted a vapor chamber and other small elements to improve the dissipation of the heat produced by this Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The result? Don’t worry, the paper-like cover will not catch fire but when the smartphone is enormously stressed, the heat is there, you can feel it and there is a drop in performance.

During operations prolonged for more than 15 minutes such as gaming, a benchmark or any other operation that engages the CPU and GPU, this Realme GT 2 Pro is fixed at 46 °. In some stress tests it even reaches a peak of 52 ° with a heat felt on the back, on the upper profile and on the display glass.

During daily use, that of every day, it never warms up. The point is that now there is still no significant outside temperature, in summer the heat produced could be even greater. The drop in performance when the temperature rises is in the range of 5-10%, something more something less based on how long the operation is. All benchmarks confirm a nice performance boost over the previous generation from Qualcomm and to tell the truth it is always the first or second in the results colliding with the very powerful A15 Bionic chip from Apple, the new Exynos 2200 from Samsung, the Google Tensor, the new MediaTek and so on.

Indeed, these numbers are reflected in a very pleasant overall experience, Android 12 + RealmeUI 3.0 make this GT 2 Pro travel at very high levels. The smartphone is very fast in any operation and it could not be otherwise with such a hardware base, you can see that Realme by aiming for a SOC like this did not want to give up anything from the point of view of performance.

The consistency of the Realme UI is to be appreciated (basically it is the same customization as OPPO), very different from the aesthetic dictates of the stock look but still able to offer a series of very interesting functions in terms of privacy, customization and performance. There is even a GT Mode that should push the performance to the limit of the smartphone but in reality there is no variation in performance.

From the telephone point of view it has good reception, the quality of the conversations is equally good. Complete from the point of view of connectivity: 5G, Wi-Fi 6, NFC, GPS and everything you need to be able to adapt to every need of use.

Camera

The photographic section of Realme GT 2 Pro is composed of two 50 Megapixel modules able to offer a new perspective thanks to the sSupport of the Field of View from 150 ° on the Ultra wide angle sensor which can also be used in Fisheye mode. Here are the technical details of the Realme GT 2 Pro camera:

  • 50MP main camera, OIS, F1.8
  • Ultra wide angle of 50MP FOV 150 ° F2.2 + Fisheye mode
  • 2 Megapixel Microscopic Camera
  • 32 MP, f / 2.4 front camera

The results during the day are very good, there is detail, there is a good color reproduction, an aesthetic look that is not very contrasted but still with bright colors. There is also a good color consistency between the wide angle and the ultra wide angle. Something is lost in terms of detail and consistency in the conditions of artificial light and in low light where the night mode does a great job to still pull off some appreciable shots, in these conditions it is clear that the ultra wide suffers more.

The well-stabilized 4K videos are also very honest, there is also the possibility of recording in 8K but the frame rate is dancer and it is more an exercise in style. Selfies are also good where the algorithm intervenes massively both day and night. Great pity not to be able to record videos with FOV of 150 °. Here are the photographic samples of Realme GT 2 Pro:

Battery & Autonomy

The battery is large, about 5000 mAh which can be recharged quickly thanks to the included 65W power supply. Tfast charging and good system management, this Realme GT 2 Pro always brings the day home, even the hardest and most demanding one. THEn terms of display hours, on average six hours, six and a half hours but if you stress it a lot, the SOC pushes and you go down which is a pleasure.

In conclusion

Everything revolves around the price, because the data sheet is high-end even if there are some waivers. There is no wireless charging, there is no certification against water and dust, even the vibration is not the best and other small details such as software support.

From Realme tradition one could expect a nice aggressive price and instead compared to the previous generation there has been a nice increase. It takes about 749 Euros to take home this Realme GT 2 Pro in the 8 GB RAM 128 GB Storage version.

Realme GT 2 Pro in promo launch at 649 Euro coming to Amazon (March 8, 2022)

Fortunately, Realme is saved in the corner with a promo (for the launch period) that allows you to take this home GT 2 Pro at 649 Euros. For that price, if you choose it you will be fine but it does not leave its mark. Realme GT 2 Pro is super fun to use, it has everything in the right place, a very powerful processor but the price should be fixed at 649 Euros and not in the promo launch.
