The world’s most popular sport suffered an own goal when European clubs canceled their partnerships with Bitci, a Turkish cryptocurrency exchange. However, many surrogate crypto companies are on the hot seat, ready to bring crypto to the mainstream through football.

According to reports, increasing cryptocurrency regulations in Turkey, while unclear, have hampered the company’s ability to perform payments, which has generated a lack of trust among the main football clubs.

Portugal’s Sporting CP, the green and white striped footballers famous for being the club where Cristiano Ronaldo grew up, and Italian Serie A club Spezia have also canceled their association with Bitci. The powerhouse of F1, Mclaren Racing, rescinded its endorsement deal with Bitci in early February.

Barcelona too ad recently that he would favor a partnership deal with Binance over Spotify despite the launch of his token as a fan in April 2021.

While it appears that the crypto and football partnerships have been whittled down to 10 players, crypto deals, hype and sponsorships between football clubs are an open target.

Of the 20 football clubs in England, 17 have at least one deal with a cryptocurrency company. For the Watford football club, Dogecoin (DOGE) not only appears on the sleeve of the jersey, but Stake.com sponsors the main body of the jersey.

Finally, while European football is hoping for a crypto-sponsored national team, in rugby football, cryptocurrency exchange Bitpanda is now sponsoring the Azurri. The exchange made the announcement ahead of Italy’s clash with the Six Nations rugby teams in January.

Bye ragazzi! We are proud to announce that we will be the main sponsor of @Federugby, the Italian Rugby Federation. So @SixNationsRugby fans, get ready to see our logo every time the gli Azzurri play!
