Xiaomi brand folding clamshell smartphones have been talked about continuously for years and in the early hours of today (January 17, 2022) the well-known leaker from Weibo Digital Chat Station has revealed a potentially decisive detail for the (commercial) fate of the device: the price list may not differ from that of a traditional flagship.
In the spring of 2020, the first renders of a possible leaflet had emerged Xiaomi of type clamshell, then 2021 was all a succession of patents (beginning, middle, and end of the year) that have done nothing but confirm the interest of the manufacturer in this type of smartphone foldable.
Until now, the only folding officially launched by the brand remains the innovative but expensive Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold. If with that product Xiaomi had intended to rival the much more famous Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G (here is our review), the future strategy of the Chinese house could follow that of the South Korean competitor, with a second cheaper folding smartphone with a “clamshell” format ”To complete the range.
As we learn Xiaomi’s second attempt in the folding segment should be with a smartphone that folds vertically, to the benefit of compactness. The most intriguing aspect of the device, according to the leaker, would be the price: Xiaomi could place it in the same price range as the non-folding flagships. Such a strategy could be successful, given that the most famous competitor or Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G (here is our review) started at launch from 1,099 euros – even if it is now easily found much cheaper – and the most recent Huawei P50 Pocket it’s even more expensive.
Waiting to learn more, Digital Chat Station also reports that this Xiaomi folding clamshell should have an FHD + resolution display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen. 1 Mobile Platform.
None of this information has been confirmed by Xiaomi, therefore we invite you to take it with due caution.
