Acer renews its premium ultrabooks Swift 3 and Swift 5: the main innovations are the update of the hardware platform, with the arrival of the 12th generation Intel Core processors, the Alder Lake, and the switch to 16:10 format for the more prestigious Swift 5. It’s a trend that is spreading a lot in the industry: 16:10 displays are taller and therefore offer more workspace – the difference is subtle enough not to be annoying when watching a movie or TV series but noticeable when watching. work or surf the internet.
Acer Swift 5 is the object of most attention of the Acer press release: the company explains that the premium laptop, “aimed at executives and professionals on the move”, is made with unibody metal body and implements a touchpad in OceanGlass, made from plastic waste collected at sea. The 14 “touch display is available only in WQXGA resolution, that is 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. The very thin edges guarantee a screen-body ratio of 92.22%; the coating is Gorilla Glass Antimicrobial with silver ions.
Among other specifications stand out the support for LPDDR5 RAM (on board there are 16 GB in dual channel), internal memory up to 2TB, and Wi-Fi 6E. The weight and measurements are slightly greater than the previous model, which had a more compact display. Acer also reports a keyboard with a new design, designed to facilitate the entry of air and contribute to heat dissipation (a + 8-10% is mentioned compared to a traditional keyboard).
The release glosses over several key technical details, including exactly which processors will be implemented (imagine the U series based on previous models) and exact battery specifications. Anyway, let’s recap with the information available:

With Swift 3 Acer limits itself to saying that the laptop, more suitable for generalist and “casual” use (it is still a premium range machine, of course), will be offered in three pastel colors – yellow, blue and gray. There will also be Intel Alder Lake and 2 TB of maximum storage here, but the display remains 16: 9 (you can choose between QHD 1440p or FHD 1080p resolution with touch screen support). The port layout looks identical to that of the Swift 5, as do the fast battery charging specs.
