If in our review we have indicated the new ones Galaxy Watch 4 And Watch 4 Classic from Samsung as the best smartwatches with Wear OS, the reason wasn’t just the great features already present at the launch. No: to take into account there is also the “Samsung factor”, that is the ability of the Korean giant to accompany the life of its products with timely and complete software support, extending its functions over time – to the point that Old Watches with Tizen have not yet been forgotten, and have recently received an update.
The Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for February 9th is now very little missing: the protagonists will be the new flagships Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 +, and Galaxy S22 Ultra, there is no doubt about this.
But it will also be an opportunity, apparently, to refresh the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic as well, and that starting from February 9th they will receive a substantial update, and of which we can already give you anticipation. So let’s see which ones in detail Announcements are coming to the wrist of those who own the latest Samsung smartwatches. And yes, it is worth removing the tooth and the curiosity, and specifying it immediately: the company has openly mentioned the arrival of the Google Assistant but it still won’t be part of this update.
NEW FOR SPORT
Let’s start with new functions dedicated to sportsmen and in particular to those who run and ride a bike: with the enhanced regular interval training function it will be possible to keep track of training sessions set to customized intensities directly from the watch, which will study a targeted alternation of more and less demanding.
In addition, information relating to body composition is enriched with insights provided by Centr, a digital fitness program curated by Chris Hemsworth: together with the update comes the opportunity to take advantage of a free 30-day trial of Centr.
ALSO THE IMPORTANT REST
After each long day, it’s time to go to bed and rest. And as we know it makes sense to keep smartwatches on the wrist even during the night, thanks to the fact that now many devices are equipped with functions dedicated to sleep. With the February 9 update on the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic, more are coming. Have you ever wondered if you are more than “nervous penguins” or “exhausted sharks”? Because soon your Samsung watch will be able to tell you.
After examining the sleep trend over seven days and the responses to two related surveys, the software will identify the type of sleep using the symbols of eight animals (see screenshot below). We will then move on to a personalized coaching program lasting 4-5 weeks, which will help improve sleep quality.
And on top of that comes the option of automatically shutting down all Samsung SmartThings devices as soon as the Watch detects that the user is sleeping: further proof of the growing synergy within the ecosystem of products of the Korean giant.
In addition to the features just described, Samsung will also introduce one new line of matching straps and dials which will be available at the owner store and commercial partners: to understand if and when this line of accessories will arrive in Italy, however, it will be necessary to wait a few more days.
QUIET, YOUR GOOGLE ASSISTANT IS ARRIVING
Samsung knows that the most requested feature by owners of Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic is the Google Assistant. With all due respect to Bixby, there is no comparison: even the “broken” version that survives on previous versions of Wear OS while being incomplete and malfunctioning is still more responsive and awake than Bixby.
As anticipated, the update of February 9 will not bring this expected change: but in the press release in which Samsung anticipated the news coming with the update, it wanted to mention the imminent arrival of the Google Assistant. And this is certainly a reassuring fact, indicative of how well the company knows what the wishes of its public are, and how the gap will probably be filled in the short term. Although we still don’t know when precisely. In the short passage dedicated to the topic, Samsung talks about “next months“:
Furthermore, Google Assistant will be available on the Galaxy Watch4 series in the coming months. With access to both Bixby and Google Assistant, consumers will be equipped with advanced voice assistant features to meet their various needs.
