Galaxy Z Fold 3 promoted by DxOMark the analysis of its photographic capabilities

Those who buy a Galaxy Z Fold 3 do not do it mainly for its photographic skills: it is a smartphone to be used for other things, from work to gaming, from streaming videos to web browsing, all perhaps in multitasking with several windows open simultaneously. What is certain is that being able to count on well-made cameras is a plus that does not hurt, and Samsung, with this generation, seems to have been rather conservative having opted for the same solution already seen on the Z Fold 2, the predecessor.

Limiting ourselves to the three main cameras – difficult to talk about front or rear for a folding smartphone … – we also saw in our review that the results are very good, perhaps not excellent, but still very acceptable. And there are those who think so, as in the case of DxOMark, which with a score of 124 places Z Fold 3 in 24th place, ahead of the sacred monster Mate 30 Pro 5G and even the S21 Ultra.

CAMERAS IN BRIEF

  • Main 12 MP, Dual Pixel AF, OIS, f / 1.8, 1.8 μm pixels, FOV 83 °
  • 12 MP ultra-wide angle, f / 2.2, 1.12 μm pixels, FOV 123 °
  • 12 MP tele, PDAF, f / 2.4, OIS, 1 μm pixel, FOV 45 °

THE ANALYSIS

To differentiate the Z Fold 3 from its predecessor there are two aspects: first of all the optimization software, which as we know affects a lot in the mobile field – Pixel is a demonstration of it – and then also the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform, which allows you to obtain superior results compared to the past with its high processing capabilities.

For the photos, the vote is 134: good dynamic range, accurate white balance, faithful color representation, and, in general, correct exposure. The ultra-wide-angle cam perhaps lacks some detail, but the wide field of vision and the overall quality of the sensor allow to obtain even in this case more than satisfactory results. For what concern telephoto lens, the judgment is good, even if perhaps the impossibility of going beyond 2x limits it’s potential a little.

The videos, says DxOMark, are in line with those of the S21 Ultra: good exposure, faithful colors, excellent stabilization, fast autofocus. When light is scarce, lees emerge difficulty of cameras, with noise, slow AF, and little detail. Overall, however, the grade is fair: 103.

And you, what do you think of the photographic qualities of the Galaxy Z Fold 3? They let you down either you feared worse? Or maybe they surprised you?
