OPPO announces the update to ColorOS 12 for these devices

OPPO, a Chinese brand that is gaining a lot of popularity, has significantly improved its speed in adapting the new Android versions to its proprietary interface, ColorOS. This year, with the release of Android 12, it was among the first OEMs to launch a stable version on the devices, along with Google And Samsung. Today the behemoth unveiled its upgrade plans for the first quarter of 2022.

Here are the OPPO devices that will receive ColorOS 12

The update to the ColorOS 12 is coming to several series of devices including Reno, OnePlus, K, and A. Let’s start with OPPO Reno5 Pro + And Reno5 5G which will receive the update from January 6, while Reno 5 Pro 5G And A95 5G between January 17th and 20th.

The rollout, in this case, concerns the Chinese variants, however, the arrival on other markets should not belong. There will also be a beta program for other devices starting January 17th. The devices involved will be OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G (our review here) and the series 8 from OnePlus and will only be available to selected users.

OnePlus is having problems migrating

Earlier this year OnePlus, with the launch of the 9 series, switched from HydrogenOS to ColorOS. If this step was exclusive to the Chinese market, the union of the base code of the old ROM with that of OPPO extends the availability to the global market, thus making the update to Android 12 a full-fledged ColorOS.

However, this is causing many difficulties for the company, which is thus unable to provide the update to the new version quickly and without bugs (the OnePlus 9 update is proof of this). With increasing criticism from the domestic and global markets, Pete Lau has decided to release a statement on Weibo.

OnePlus CEO stated that it is difficult to provide ColorOS 12 update via OTA for phones running HydrogenOS without complications. The company needs time to get everything running smoothly, safeguarding user data without the need for a factory data reset once migrated, resulting in loss of files and applications. So to offer a seamless migration, the HydrogenOS software team, now merged with ColorOS, needs time to optimize everything properly. He concludes by anticipating that ColorOS will become faster and more stable shortly, with a new experience that will debut aboard the OnePlus 10.

As for the news of ColorOS 12, several UI changes span both the built-in apps and the system itself. Among the various features, we find the Emoji, a sort of Memoji inspired by those of iOS, and a new way of connecting to the PC. Not all features will arrive on all eligible devices starting with the next build, but they may arrive at a later date.
