OPPO Find N official: the compact folding that was missing

On the second day of the INNO DAY, OPPO unveiled its first folding smartphone to the public: OPPO Find N. It is one high-end smartphone, the result of four years of experimentation and six prototype generations, characterized primarily by a compact design and the aspect ratio of 18: 9 when folded.

The two displays have interesting diagonals: 5.49 inches for the external display in 18: 9 and 7.1 inches for the internal display in 8.4: 9, a form factor still unpublished for the world of folding and probably expected by many.

OPPO Find N, however, has a lot to say on the technical front, let’s go into the specifics of the various elements.

OPPO called it Serene Display and is made with 12 different layers to ensure reliability and quality, the last layer is a flexible 0.03 mm UTG glass, which greatly diminishes the “plastic” effect of some other folding smartphones. The independent TUV has verified it for resistance of more than 200 thousand bends.

The foldable panel of OPPO Find N is an OLED LTPO with a refresh rate up to 120 Hz and a touch sampling rate of 1000 Hz, the brightness instead pushes up to 1000 nits, for a resolution slightly higher than FullHD.

The zip Flexion Hinge was made with 136 different components, it will certainly be evaluated with the device in your hands, but on paper promises to reduce the visibility of the fold by 80% compared to the main competitors (Galaxy Z Fold 3 ed), also eliminates the gap between the two parts of the display when the smartphone is folded, thus avoiding that dust can be introduced with the consequent risk of scratches.

The same hinge allows the smartphone to remain in a semi-open position with an angle between 50 and 120 degrees, hence some software features that OPPO calls “FlexForm”.

OPPO FIND N has a design with curved edges and rounded corners, the 5.49-inch diagonal we could almost call it “of other times” while the form factor of 18: 9 makes the smartphone lower and wider than all other recent smartphones, OPPO defines it as a “familiar” design.

Speaking of familiarity, the similarity with the photographic module of OPPO Find X3 Pro does not go unnoticed, raised with a gentle curvature that joins the body with the most prominent part.

It is available in three colors: black, white, and purple, in all cases, the glasses used are Gorilla Glass Victus, on the other hand, there is no certification for resistance to water and dust.

The dimensions are 132.6 x 73 x 15.9 mm when closed and 132.6 x 140.2 x 7.8 when open, the weight is 276 grams.

OPPO FIND N is positioned on the high end however, it is not equipped with Qualcomm’s latest mobile platform unveiled a couple of weeks ago. There would not have been time to integrate it and present the smartphone by the end of the year, so it was decided to go on something tested.

There is no shortage of software functions designed to make the most of the particular shape of the folding, its two screens, and the hinge.

The changes that OPPO has made to the ColorOS, go by the name of FlexForm, the interface of the music, notes, the camera app has therefore been revised, all take advantage of the possibility of fixing the hinge at angles between 50 and 120 degrees, for example, it is possible to place OPPO Find N on the table and have a keyboard in the lower part, in the same way, the smartphone can support itself as a kind of tripod when taking photos, videos or video calls.

Some have since been added useful gestures for multitasking functions: with a swipe down with two fingers the split view is activated, while with a pinch out with 4 fingers the floating window mode. You can also take advantage of the usual gestures dedicated to side-by-side windows and save combinations of open apps.

Everything should happen seamlessly from an internal to an external screen and vice versa.
