Renault Scenic could return as an electric SUV

Renault’s electrification plan it is very ambitious as we all know. Over the next few years several new electric models will arrive including the Renault 5, the concept of which we have already seen at the 2021 Munich Motor Show. Apparently, it seems that the French brand intends to revive the scenic which left the scene last year. However, only the name of the “original” model may remain as an Auto Express report states that Renault’s plans would include the relaunch of the Scenic as an electric SUV.

Given the success that crossovers / SUVs are enjoying on the market, it is not surprising that Renault wants to focus more and more on this segment also for its electric cars.

According to the report, the electric Scenic will rest on CMF-EV platform which is already used for the current Renault Megane E-Tech Electric. A 5-seater model that, in the intentions of the French brand, should compete with electric cars of the caliber of the Volkswagen ID.4. The debut on the market is not yet close, we are talking about 2024. However, a concept of the car could already be presented later in the year.

And speaking directly with Auto Express, Luca de Meo admitted that a possible electric Scenic would not have had the shapes of a minivan but rather those of an SUV. However, one should not expect a 7-seater “Grand Scenic” variant like the original model. In fact, the CMF-EV platform does not support this configuration. Maximum 5 seats, therefore. The platform, however, supports the presence of powertrains with two electric motors. Therefore, it is possible that one will be proposed variant with all-wheel drive.

The electric Scenic will surely exploit many of the technologies present today inside the Megane E-Tech Electric. This means it could also use the same powertrains. However, since the electric Scenic should still be larger than the electric Megane, one can also think that larger capacity batteries can be used.

All that remains is to wait for more information on this project.
