Apple will allow Face ID to be repaired without replacing iPhones

It seems that Apple’s trend a get in the way in any case the repairs on his iPhones, preferring instead the replacement of the terminals, are coming to the terminus.

The first timid signs had already come this fall, when the company had opened a window to the possibility of replacing the display of the iPhone 13, one of the most common repair operations, without losing access to the Face ID function or using a micro-welder.

In an internal note to Apple employees released by the site MacRumors we now learn of a further step forward for the Cupertino house, always connected to the Face IDwhich we remember being the only method of secure release present on board the latest iPhones.

iPhone 13 Pro

The indiscretion reveals that soon the Apple Store and repair services authorized (Apple Authorized Service Providers) will be able to repair the Face ID on board iPhones from the XS model onwards without having to replace the entire terminal, as happens up to now.

To make this possible, Apple will equip authorized technicians with one component dedicated service, the TrueDepth Cameracontaining the modules of the front camera and the Face ID recognition system, which will allow you to restore the functionality of this type of release without replacing the whole unit.

Apple Self Service Repair

There decision comes, at least on paper, as part of Apple’s plan to curtail its ecological footprint limiting the number of fully replaced iPhones. The question of sustainabilityboth environmental and economic, is also the basis of the Self Service Repair program, recently launched by the company, which allows Apple users to carry out repairs do-it-yourself to iPhone and Mac with original spare parts.

Since access to the TrueDepth Camera appears for the time being limited to the official Apple repair circuit, the question of the constraints on repairs and the use of third-party components, a problem that has been faced for years by supporters of the right to repair.
